My Story…
My husband and I discovered Bayfield after reading a book to our young daughters about a young Ojibwe girl who escaped entrapment by holding on to the side of a canoe in the freezing waters of Lake Superior. We decided to travel up to Bayfield to show them the area and to let them feel the water temperature themselves. We fell in love with Bayfield. In one word, "magical". That was a long time ago. Flash forward to when the girls were out of the house and I was back to swimming regularly, I discovered the Point to LaPoint swim. I have been traveling up to swim this event since 2016. Bayfield is a very small community (about 600) and benefits greatly from a very brief tourism period. I love the swim and whatever conditions it brings but I also want to help the community support itself and specifically, the Bayfield Rec Center.
