My Story

Over the years, running, racing, and training has always brought these three sisters closer together through friendly (or not-so-friendly) competition. This June, Sarah, Megan, and Kelsey will put that grit and grace to the test at the 50th annual Grandma’s (half) Marathon in Duluth, MN as charity runners for Save the Boundary Waters.

Born and raised surrounded by lakes, rivers, and woods in Minnesota, the outdoors is a part of who we are. Minnesota’s waters shaped our childhood and grounds us as adults.

There is no place that inspires more awe than the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. A 1.1 million acre wilderness of interconnected lakes, rivers and boreal forest, it possesses a stillness that is simultaneously bursting with life. It is also a place that needs protection. The Polcher girls are choosing to fundraise for Save the Boundary Waters to help them continue their fight for permanent protection against the irreversible threats of toxic sulfide-ore copper mining https://www.savetheboundarywaters.org/

We are also fundraising for this special wilderness as a tribute to our Uncle Keith Koslucher, an archer, hunter, and fisherman who loved the Boundary Waters and taught us all how to cheat at cribbage. Rest in Peace, Keith.

Description

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is an undeveloped 1.1 million-acre federal and state-recognized Wilderness Area. It is an expanse of lakes, rivers, and forests in the Superior National Forest, located along the Minnesota-Canada border, that has been protected by statute and international treaty for more than a century. This is the sixth most critical region in the lower 48 to protect for climate resiliency and contains 20% of all the freshwater in the entire National Forest System. The water in the Boundary Waters is so clean, you can dip your cup and drink straight from the lake.

Save the Boundary Waters is the locally-based, national campaign led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness based in Ely, Minnesota dedicated to permanently protecting America’s most beloved Wilderness Area – the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
