Our story…

Running for Care, Community, and the Royal Alex

My name is Jamil (Sarder Jamil Azad), and I’m a Registered Nurse at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. I’m also a runner — and since 2022, the Edmonton Marathon has become more than just a race for me.

Running gives me a sense of freedom, joy, and balance. But what truly changed everything was running with others. What started as a shared love for running grew into a community we now proudly call Red and Green.

Last year, nearly 50 runners came together under Red and Green to take part in the Edmonton Marathon. This year, we’re hoping to grow even bigger — not just in numbers, but in impact.

As someone who works at the Royal Alex, I see every day how vital this hospital is to our community. The care, compassion, and dedication here change lives — and now, through this run, we want to give back.
