My Story…

Hi, my name is Mateo. When I was a baby, I lost my right eye to cancer. Since then, I have gone through many treatments to help save my only remaining eye. During my cancer journey, POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario) helped support me and my family while I received treatment at SickKids Hospital. Because of the help we received, I want to give back and help other kids who are going through cancer too. Every year, I participate in the Kids Cancer Run. I also sell some of my toys and do a lemonade stand to raise extra money because helping other kids is very important to me. Any donation, big or small, makes a difference and goes directly to POGO to support children and families facing childhood cancer. As a bonus, you'll receive a tax receipt for your donation. Thank you for helping me make a difference for kids like me! ❤️ Mateo

Description

Join Me in Supporting Kids with Cancer 💛

On September 19, 2026, I’ll be lacing up my shoes to take part in the Kitchener Kids with Cancer Run | Walk in support of an incredible cause: The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO).

At last year’s Kitchener Kids event, Jordan, Kian’s mom, spoke so beautifully and courageously, sharing their story and the impact that support has made on their family. Her words were honest and powerful:

“Cancer has been a thief in our lives. It stole time, money, and energy from our whole family. It changed who we are, how we parent, and even who remains in our lives.”

Jordan, Mother of Kian

When Jordan’s son Kian was diagnosed with leukemia just before his third birthday, their world changed overnight. Months in hospital, painful complications, and years of treatment followed—but through it all, they knew they had the support of POGO.

Each year, more than 4,500 families in Ontario face the unimaginable challenge of a child undergoing cancer treatment or follow-up care. While more than 85% of children survive, the journey doesn’t end there—two-thirds of survivors are at risk of long-term effects from their cancer or treatment.

Funds raised through this event will directly support:

💛 Financial assistance for families, helping cover out-of-pocket costs during treatment

💛 Support for survivors, including personalized school and workplace counseling

💛 Important research into the long-term effects of childhood cancer

Please support me by making a donation to my page and help ensure families have the support they need, when they need it most.
Every dollar truly helps children like Kian keep moving forward.

Thank you so much for your support of POGO 💛
