My Story…
I never thought I'd be signing up for a half-marathon… but here we are! 😄
A little over a month ago, I joined a women's hiking/walking group called Wild Her Ways. I was looking for a way to get more active, work toward being able to tackle longer hikes, meet some new women, and hopefully have a few new adventures along the way.
Then some of the women in the group started talking about participating in the Calgary Police Youth Foundation's half-marathon fundraiser. (Calgary Police Classic)
And I thought… Could I actually do that?
I've never run a half-marathon. In fact, I've never really considered myself a runner! I'll be doing this one mostly as a fast-paced walk with some running sprinkled in — and I'm both nervous and excited about taking on something that is definitely outside my usual comfort zone.
But when I learned more about where the money goes, it gave me an even bigger reason to say yes.
The Calgary Police Youth Foundation helps support programs that give young people positive opportunities, guidance, and alternatives that can help keep them off the streets and away from crime.
As a mom who raised two boys, this hits close to home. I've seen young people around my own kids get caught up in drugs and crime, and I've experienced the heartbreak of knowing that some of those young people didn't make it out the other side. It's incredibly sad to think about how young some people are when the choices, pressures and influences around them can start changing the direction of their lives.
I believe young people deserve opportunities, support, positive influences and people in their corner — and that's something worth getting a little uncomfortable for.
So on September 19, 2026, I'll be putting one foot in front of the other (for 21.1 km! 😳) alongside some amazing women, and I'll be challenging myself in a way I never expected.
My goal is to raise $500 for the Calgary Police Youth Foundation.
If you'd like to support me, any donation — big or small — would mean so much. And if you can't donate, cheering me on, sharing this fundraiser, or sending some encouragement my way on race day absolutely counts too!
Thank you for helping me turn a slightly crazy personal challenge into something that can make a difference for young people in our community. ❤️
Let's see if we can get me to $500!
And if you see a woman power-walking her way through Calgary on September 19th with a slightly determined look on her face… come say hi. 😂
🎉 UPDATE: (08/18/26) You blew my original goal out of the water!
When I set my original fundraising goal of $500, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect.
Well... thanks to the incredible generosity of so many, we have officially blown that goal out of the water! 🤯🎉
As of the morning of August 18, we've raised an amazing $815.62 for the Calgary Police Youth Foundation!
Seriously... WOW. ❤️
That means we're now only $184.38 away from reaching $1,000.
So, I've decided it's time to set a new goal! 🎯
Can we make it to $1,000 before race day?
No amount is too small, and every bit helps.
$184.38 to go... let's do this! 🙌🎉❤️
