Help David raise money

On Sunday, September 20th, I'll be taking part once again in the 5K portion of the Canada Army Run in Ottawa, raising money for Soldier On, a program that supports ill and injured members of the Canadian Armed Forces. My family has a long connection to the Canadian Forces. My great-great-uncle Pvt. Phil Malette, joined the 38th Battalion (Ottawa) and was wounded at Vimy Ridge. He and his unit went on to fight at Passchendaele, Arras, Bourlon Wood, the Drocourt-Quéant Line and Canal du Nord. He was decorated for bravery twice. When he returned from the war in 1919, his family, including my seven-year old grandmother, met him at the Grand Trunk Railway Station, now home to the Senate of Canada, which is steps away from the Army Run finish line. My father's cousin, RCAF Pilot Officer Gordon Ernest Pratt, went missing in action on October 4, 1944 on a mission over the North Sea in a Wellington bomber. His name, along with those of his fellow crew members, is inscribed on the RCAF memorial in Runnymede, United Kingdom. He was 23 years old. I will be running in their memory and to honour those who have served or are serving in the Forces.
