My Story…

In 2017, my mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia. She was still young, still full of life, and our family's world changed overnight. By 2021, she needed more care than we could give at home, and she moved into long term care.

What nobody tells you about this disease is that you don't just lose the person. You lose everything they would have been part of. I'm at the age now where I need my mom the most. I have kids she should be spoiling. I have my own health struggles she should be fussing over the way only a mother can. There are so many days I just want to call her and ask what she thinks, and I can't.

She was the anchor of our family. When she began to drift, everything changed. We've all had to learn how to hold steady without the person who held us together.

This disease doesn't just take memories. It takes conversations, milestones, and moments we thought we had years left to share. I'm running in her honour, to fight for better research, better care, and real hope for families like ours.

If you're able to donate, every dollar makes a difference. And if you can't, a kind thought for my mom means just as much.
