My Story…
This might be the first time I’ve ever shared this publicly. Maybe I was running from the reality of it. Maybe I still am.
In 2017, my mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia at just 58 years old.
What nobody tells you about this disease is that you don’t just lose the person in front of you. You lose everything they were supposed to be a part of.
I’m at an age now where I need my mom the most. I have kids she should be spoiling. I have my own health struggles she should be fussing over the way only a mother can. There are so many days I just want to pick up the phone, ask her what she thinks, and I can’t.
I never got to take her on those big trips or buy her a nice purse. I don’t even know if I ever said "I love you" the way she deserved to hear it. But becoming a parent has made it hit home way harder.
I’m running for her. For my mom, and for all the dreams and aspirations we held when we were young. I really don't know what to do, so I'll keep running and moving forward. I'll take the steps for the steps she can't take.
I’m raising money for the Alzheimer Society to help support families navigating this journey. If you are able to donate or share, the link is below. Thank you for your support.
