My Story…
Running a marathon is hard - but solving climate change is far harder. I grew up in a farm near Nanaimo, British Columbia, where I fell deeply in love with the environment.
Today, I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at McGill University, working at the intersection of engineering and sustainability to tackle real-world environmental challenges.
I work with an international environmental NGO focused on climate advocacy and education, and last year I attended COP30 in Belém, Brazil - where global decisions about our future are made. I've seen how rarely youth actually get a seat at the table when it comes to decisions that directly impact the planet we are inheriting.
That is why it is important to amplify youth voices in climate advocacy. That’s why I’m fundraising for the Starfish Environmental Society - to support environmental education and help equip the next generation of climate leaders. Every step I take in this marathon is for something bigger than the finish line.
Description
Running and the environment are deeply interconnected. Our natural spaces provide us with fresh air and the desire to adventure in the great outdoors. Co-founder of The Starfish Canada, Kyle Empringham, explained it well: "Environmental matters aren’t just about ethics — it’s about our health, too. They provide spaces for people to breathe deeply, to enjoy the trails with friends and family, and to soak in the benefits that nature can provide us."
Our team is excited to support The Starfish Canada. This charity actively supports youth voices in climate action and environmentalism for decades, and their success in amplifying young people as leaders in this space are profound. Since 2010, they've recognized and supported thousands of young people in seeing the world through an environmental lens, with those young folks taking those ideas and insights wherever their careers and life journies take them.
We appreciate any support you can provide. You will be provided with a tax receipt for your contribution.
