Raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV) is a local affiliate of the National Big Brothers Big Sisters youth mentoring organization. BBBSMV creates and supports mentoring relationships between positive adult mentors (Bigs) and youth mentees (Littles) in our community. These mentoring relationships ignite the power and promise of youth by promoting self-confidence and encouraging growth and stability for youth, their families, and our community.
Bigs serve as a safe, non-judgmental space for Littles to seek adult guidance and perspective. In addition, Bigs connect Littles to local resources such as sporting events, museums, classes, and hobbies. These new experiences broaden Littles’ life experiences and encourage new interests. Through all these interactions, Littles increase their feelings of self-worth and belief in their abilities and opportunities.
BBBSMV staff plan regularly scheduled activities that educate and entertain matches at no cost to the Bigs, such as art classes, bowling nights, and a robot Lego League. BBBSMV also provides all matches with free memberships to the Botanical Center, Putnam, and YMCA. For teen Littles, BBBSMV offers career exploration opportunities and discussion groups on topics such as body image, healthy relationships, and substance use.
