Raise money for Growing the Grassroots
Growing the Grassroots provides agricultural education and promotes sustainable development in Sierra Leone, one of the most food insecure countries in the world. We have a 5 acre farm in the Bo District, where we are working to develop a complete permaculture demonstration farm. We grow a variety of crops including sweet potato, maize, groundnut, and pineapple, and our practices consistently produce 2-3x the average local yield.
A majority of our harvests are donated to local schools to provide lunches for the students, improving their nutrition, focus, and energy. We also conduct school field trips on our farm to educate students on the best farming practices, microeconomics, and more. Classes from surrounding schools visit our farm for hands-on lessons, classroom learning, and guided tours.
