My Story…

I have had 2 pregnancies and births affected by Maternal Alloimmunization. In 2022, during my second pregnancy, I had a very traumatic miscarriage at 16 weeks. I hemorrhaged and required 2 blood transfusions.  10 weeks into my next pregnancy, I was told I was now antibody positive, either from the transfusions or the hemorrhage, “but usually it doesn’t effect anything, unless you have the bad ones.” Well I had the bad ones, 4 of them actually.  It was a wild, terrifying ride, but ultimately we had a healthy baby boy and said no more babies! And then we changed our minds, and did it all again. Same wild, yet somehow more terrifying ride. We were blessed with a healthy baby girl and that is the end of my alloimmunization journey. I know I got lucky and others do not always have the same outcomes. I want to support those moms and babies and families affected by this in any way I can.  Please consider donating if you can.

Description

I’m running Philadelphia Marathon Weekend with Team MAF to support families affected by maternal alloimmunization and HDFN.

Maternal alloimmunization happens when a pregnant person develops antibodies that can attack a baby’s red blood cells. This can lead to hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn, or HDFN, a serious condition that can cause severe anemia, jaundice, NICU stays, blood transfusions and in the most heartbreaking cases, loss.

The Maternal Alloimmunization Foundation supports families through education, advocacy, care packages, patient resources and community support. Their work helps families feel less alone and helps raise awareness around a condition that too many people have never heard of until they are facing it themselves.

Every mile I run is for these babies and families.

Thank you for supporting my fundraiser and helping MAF protect babies before and after birth.
