I love running outdoors. There is nothing quite like the feeling of hitting the pavement, taking in the fresh air, and pushing my limits. But as I train for the Philadelphia Half Marathon this November, my miles have taken on a deeper meaning.

I am running to leave the earth a better place for my daughter Marlowe, and I need your help.

The Problem on the Course

If you have ever participated in or watched a major road race, you have probably seen it: the thousands of discarded water cups, gel packets, and plastic wrappers littering the streets. It has always bothered me to see a sport that celebrates the outdoors generate mountains of trash that inevitably end up in our landfills. I want my daughter to grow up enjoying clean, vibrant outdoor spaces, not dealing with the waste we leave behind.

The Solution: Racing for Sustainability

That is why I am dedicating my Philadelphia Half Marathon to raising funds for Racing for Sustainability. This incredible organization works directly with race directors to minimize the negative environmental impact of these massive events. They help implement practical solutions to reduce waste, divert trash from landfills, and ensure the races we love do not come at the expense of our planet.
