A Gift That Changed My Life

On January 6, 2022, I had the incredible honour of donating a kidney to a dear friend.

When I first learned that I was a match, I felt incredibly fortunate. Being able to give something that could make such a profound difference in the life of someone I cared about was an experience I will carry with me forever. I went into the process hoping to help my friend, but I never could have imagined how much the experience would change me, too.

I was incredibly fortunate to receive exceptional care throughout the entire journey from the Centre for Living Organ Donation. From the very beginning, I felt supported, cared for and looked after by a team that treated this experience with such compassion and expertise. I remain deeply grateful to everyone who cared for me and my friend.

On September 20th, I’ll be running a 5K to raise money in support of living organ donation. Every donation helps support the work of the Centre for Living Organ Donation and helps make it possible for more people to experience the life-changing gift of transplantation.

I will always feel incredibly lucky that I had the chance to be a match for my friend. Donating my kidney was one of the most meaningful things I have ever done, and I’m so grateful to now have the chance to give back to the people and organization that supported me through it.
