My Story…

150km in 19 days for Anya’s Wish

Tim and I are running 150km in 19 days to raise as much as we can for Anya’s Wish, and we’d love your help.

Anya Zuber was a vivacious and radiant local girl from Armidale. She passed away from osteosarcoma in 2020, aged 19. Her wish was to change the future for other children facing the same diagnosis, and her family has made that their mission.

Anya’s Wish is a research program at Children’s Cancer Institute, led by Associate Professor Emmy Fleuren. It is working to replace harsh treatments that have barely changed in four decades with kinder, more effective ones. For those with advanced or relapsed osteosarcoma, only around one in five will survive.

What donations to Anya’s Wish have already made possible

* Eight new models of osteosarcoma created from donated patient tumour samples

* A promising targeted drug that stops osteosarcoma growing, and works even better combined with a second therapy

* Early signs the combination may also work for other childhood sarcomas

* Complete tumour shrinkage in some laboratory models

The next step is building the evidence needed for clinical trials.

Please dig as deep as you can. This matters so much. Every donation, big or small, helps make sure no family has to go through what Anya’s did.
