My Story
Sophie's journey with Cancer started 8 years ago, at a tender age of 3 and a half and ever since that fateful day, life has been an incredibly difficult journey for her. She has endured pain which majority of us cannot even imagine, she has endured treatments and procedures which would break an adult's spirit. But even after all of this, Sophie has kept on going, she has moved from on chemo cycle to the next, from one scan to another, from one transfusion to another. Along the way the cost of this journey has been huge and the biggest casualty has been Sophie's childhood. She has not attended school regularly, she has not been able to make friends, she has not been able to enjoy simple things in life, she has not been able to be a young kid. During these 8 years, Sophie just grew up so fast. 2025 had been a particularly cruel year for Sophie. It started with a slight pain in the back which blew up to excruciating levels of pain which required morphine in a matter for a few days. Scans showed huge tumor growth around her spine, neck and chest. It spoiled her plans of visiting Disneyland and Harry Potter Adventures in California. She was pushed back into chemo and she has been in chemo for almost all year. She went to a full school day only 4 times in the whole year. She has endured 8 grueling rounds of chemotherapy. We have lost count of the blood and platelet transfusions that she had this year. But through all of this, Campfire Circle and its incredible employees and volunteers have been a beacon of hope, smiles and laughter for her. Camp continues to be her favorite thing in the world. Although we could not go to camp due to some uncontrollable reasons, but Campfire circle has done so much to keep her fighting through all these rough times. Doctors do not know how long the chemo will continue working, we do not know what lies ahead for Sophie but for now we WILL be running on Mother's day 2026 for Campfire Circle. Come join us!!!! Together lets make life easier for kids like Sophie!! make more effective and inspire people to donate for the fundraiser
Description
Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation. For 42 years, Campfire Circle has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis. Today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them. Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families. Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario. |
