My Story
Here we go again! This my third time participating in the Sporting Life 10k in support of Campfire Circle.
A serious illess changes a kids life, but so does camp! Campfire Circle gives children battling serious illess' the chance to be kids again by restoring a sense of normlacy and fostering hope.
In 2013, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and was treated at SickKids Hospital. During my time at SickKids, I was lucky enough to be visited by Campfire Circle (Formerlly Camp Ooch) staff. During our time together we made crafts, played games and shared lots of laughs. Those visits made all the difference to my moral during my time in hospital.
When I was discharged, I was able to attend Camp in Muskoka. I look back on my days at camp as some of the best of my life. I was lucky enough to learn new skills and make lifelong friends.
To thank the camp staff and volunteers for the difference they made in my life, each year I participate in the Sporting Life 10k and raise funds for Campfire Circle so other children can experience camp like I did when I needed it most.

Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation. For 42 years, Campfire Circle has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis. Today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them.
