My Story
This year, I am walking for two families I care about deeply and to whom Campfire Circle has brought moments of joy during very difficult times.
I am participating for my friend Melanie and her family, and especially for her indomitable ten‑year‑old son Liam, who has been battling leukemia for more than half his life. Throughout his long journey, Liam has found moments of joy and comfort through the in‑hospital programs offered by Campfire Circle. In the summer of 2024, he, his siblings, and his parents were able to spend time together at the overnight camp—a rare chance to simply be a family, surrounded by laughter, nature, and a community that understands. They treasure those memories deeply.
I am also walking for my dear colleague Daniel and his family. His young daughter Giulietta, just three years old, has faced an unexpected and difficult health journey of her own—one that has brought her into close connection with Campfire Circle as well. Whenever she sees the volunteers at SickKids, her whole face lights up. Those small moments of joy matter more than most of us will ever know.
Campfire Circle creates spaces where kids living with serious illness—and their families—can feel supported and joyful. These programs are offered at no cost, and they rely on the generosity of people who believe in the power of community.
Please join me in honouring Liam and Giulietta, offering support to their families, and helping Campfire Circle continue its mission of bringing joy to children in need by making a donation today. Thank you!
Description
Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation. For 42 years, Campfire Circle has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis. Today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them. Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families. Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario. |
