My Story
Back again for another year of fundraising for my favourite cause — Campfire Circle.
This year, I’ve set an ambitious goal: raising $15,000 to support the incredible kids and families Campfire Circle serves.
Last year, I upped the ante by running a half marathon instead of the 10K. This year, I’m heading back to the 10K distance, but with a new challenge — chasing a personal best of sub‑50 minutes. That’s a pace of 5 min/km or less (or just under an 8‑minute mile for my imperial friends!).
So why do I keep doing this — and why does this cause mean so much to me?
For those who may not know, Campfire Circle is a privately funded, nonprofit oncology camp that supports children and families affected by childhood cancer or serious illness.
A diagnosis like this changes life in an instant. Suddenly, everything revolves around medical appointments, hospital stays, treatments, and time away from school. Simple childhood joys — friendships, birthday parties, sports teams — are often put on hold.
Campfire Circle fills that void.
Whether it’s in hospitals, in the community, online, or at overnight camp, Campfire Circle creates safe, joyful spaces where kids can be kids and families can be families — at absolutely no cost to them.
As a former Campfire Circle volunteer, I’ve seen this magic first‑hand. I’ve witnessed the laughter, the confidence, the friendships, and the moments of normalcy that mean everything to these kids and their families.
And now, as a parent myself, this cause hits even closer to home. Having my own children has put into perspective just how devastating it would be to watch your child face serious illness — and how invaluable organizations like Campfire Circle are in bringing light, joy, and support during the darkest times. It has deepened my commitment to doing whatever I can to help ensure these kids and families never feel alone.
So this year, I’m asking for your support once again — not just for me and my run, but for the incredible children and families Campfire Circle serves.
I run — even when it’s hard, when my legs hurt, and when I don’t think I can take another step — because it’s a privilege to be able to do so. And because these kids show us every day what true strength really looks like.
Every contribution — big or small — helps me get closer to my $15,000 goal and ensures Campfire Circle can continue supporting 1,500+ kids and their families every year.
THANK YOU in advance for your generosity, encouragement, and support. 💛
Description
Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation. For 42 years, Campfire Circle has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis. Today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them. Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families. Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario. |
