My Story

As many of you know, I have been volunteering at Campfire Circle (formerly Camp Oochigeas or "Camp Ooch"), an organization that brings the magic of camp to children affected by cancer and serious illness, for the past four years.

In addition to volunteering at the camp in Muskoka during the summers, I also volunteer to deliver camp programming year-round at SickKids hospital in Toronto.

Campfire Circle has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. My late grandfather, Hugh Rennie, was the Founding Director of Camp Ooch when it started in 1983, and Campfire Circle has been massively important to my family since that first summer. When I was at Queen's University, my sisters and I consecutively chaired Queen's for Ooch, a student-run organization that raises money for the camp.

Campfire Circle is a magical place. The programming is entirely free for families affected by cancer and serious illness, including programs for families, children suffering from serious illnesses, and bereaved siblings.

It would mean the world to me if you would support my page and donate to Campfire Circle to help more kids with cancer and serious illness just be regular kids. Camp thanks you for your generosity, and I can't wait to run this Mother's Day #ForTheKids!

Description

Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most

Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation.

For 42 years, Campfire Circle has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

Today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them.

Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families.

Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario.
