My Story…

This year, I am proud to be running the Falmouth Road Race in support of Empower, an organization that creates meaningful mentoring relationships for children who have experienced the loss of a parent.

When I was a freshman in high school, I lost my father. It was a life-changing experience that shaped who I am, and I know firsthand how important it is to have support, guidance, and connection during times of grief.

A year ago, through Empower, I was matched with an incredible 15-year-old girl who also lost her father when she was in 8th grade. Since then, we've built a special friendship through shared experiences and common interests. We've gotten our ears pierced together, gone to a concert, taken walks along the beach, grabbed coffee, completed workouts, and attended Empower's Father's Day events together over the past two years.

One of the things we bond over most is our love of exercise and athletics. Through our time together, I've seen the power of mentorship—not to replace what has been lost, but to provide encouragement, connection, and someone who truly understands.

I am running this race to help ensure that more children who have experienced the loss of a parent can be matched with mentors and find the same support that both of us have found through Empower. Funds raised will also help sustain the programs and community events that bring families, mentors, and children together throughout the year.

Thank you for supporting me, Empower, and the young people whose lives are changed through these meaningful connections. Every donation helps make a difference.

Description

Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2026 Falmouth Road Race!

Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”

Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.  For more information, or to become a Mentor or enroll a child, please visit www.weareempower.org
