I am incredibly honored to be running the Falmouth Road Race this August in support of Herren Project - an organization doing truly life-changing work.

Herren Project is a national nonprofit dedicated to the treatment, recovery, and prevention of substance use disorder, providing free resources and support to individuals and families. Their services include treatment placement assistance, long-term recovery support, online support groups, prevention and wellness initiatives, and scholarships for treatment programs, recovery housing, and recovery coaching.

Founded in 2011 by former professional basketball player Chris Herren—who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008—Herren Project is built on the belief that together, we recover, as we support, inspire, and empower those affected by substance use disorder.

I first learned about Herren Project a few years ago when Chris Herren came to the middle school where I work. Our 7th and 8th graders were incredibly fortunate to hear his story firsthand. His talk was moving, powerful, and deeply impactful. Substance use disorder touches every family in some way, and seeing our students so engaged and locked in during his presentation reminded us just how important this work is. We can only hope that Chris’s inspiring story will stay with them and help someone when they need it most.
