My Story…

Boston MedFlight is the leading nonprofit critical care transport organization, bringing the expertise and resources of a hospital intensive care unit (ICU) directly to patients—wherever they are and whenever we’re needed. In August 2024, I became one of those patients.

While on vacation with my family in Nantucket, I experienced sudden neurological symptoms that turned our world upside down. My parents rushed me to the hospital, where brain scans revealed I had suffered a stroke. At just 26 years old, with no prior medical history, it felt unthinkable.

The doctors knew I needed advanced care and quickly arranged transport to MGH in Boston. As a storm was quickly approaching the island, Boston MedFlight arrived without hesitation, safely flying my mom and me to Boston. Their calmness, skill, and compassion on one of the most terrifying days of my life are the reasons I am here today. They were not only medical providers — they were heroes who saved my life.

In the weeks that followed, I learned I have a genetic blood disorder and a previously undiagnosed PFO. My world felt completely flipped upside down. In October 2024, I underwent heart surgery to repair the PFO.

Now, a year and a half later, I am feeling strong and healthy — and I’m running the Falmouth Road Race in 2026 to raise money for a cause that is deeply personal to me.

Supporting Boston MedFlight is my way of giving back to the team that gave me a second chance at life. I hope you’ll consider supporting them alongside me.

With love,
Livi 💙
