Help Kate raise money

I'm excited to announce that Matt and I will be running the Falmouth Road Race this August as part of the Project Sweet Peas Team! 

We have a deep rooted connection with Project Sweet Peas, a nonprofit that provided us with our first glimmer of hope and support after our daughter, Ava, was born prematurely at 24 weeks gestational age.  At just 1 lb 1 ounce, Ava came into this world abruptly as the only way to save both of our lives after I developed HELLP Syndrome.  We spent 135 long days watching her fight for her life and making hard medical decisions.  We will never forget the presence and efforts of Project Sweet Peas in the NICU- whether it was a care package or knitted hat, or resource materials and support- their small efforts made an enormous impact on us and other families struggling to get through their NICU stay. 

9 years later, I developed an unprovoked DVT in my leg, and after much testing was diagnosed with a rare, auto-immune blood disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).  This disorder causes unprovoked blood clots and pregnancy complications- like HELLP Syndrome.  Almost a decade later, I had come full circle, finally finding a cause for the hardest time I had ever endured.

I am not a runner, but knowing that I will continue to have health challenges as I get older, I have taken on the Falmouth Road Race as a personal challenge- both to prove to myself that I can keep overcoming obstacles through self discipline; and, to give back to an organization that offered so much to us at the start of our journey.
