My Story…
This year, Caroline, Claire, and I are running the Falmouth Road Race to benefit Tommy’s Place in honor of Emily Butt.
Emily was a dear friend of our family and the same age as our youngest daughter, Claire. The two first met at the hockey rink, cheering on their older sisters from the sidelines. Before long, they became partners in crime and later found themselves in the same kindergarten class, where their friendship continued to grow.
In 2021, Emily was diagnosed with leukemia. During her incredibly brave fight, she and her family were invited to spend a magical week at Tommy’s Place in Falmouth. That week gave them something every family facing childhood cancer deserves: time to simply be together, make joyful memories, and experience a little bit of magic during an incredibly challenging time.
Emily passed away in February 2024, but she remains very much a part of our lives and our hearts.
Running this race together is our way of honoring Emily and supporting a place that gave her family such a special gift. Tommy’s Place welcomes children fighting cancer and their families for special stays that allow them to step away from treatments and hospital rooms and instead focus on joy, connection, and time together.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation in Emily’s honor. Your support helps ensure that more children and families facing childhood cancer can experience the same joy and magic that Tommy’s Place gave to Emily and her family.
