My Story…
As a former Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard and former UMass Swimmer , I proudly protected our outer beaches for 23 seasons from 1987 through 2023, my fondness runs deep for our Lifeguard staff, Park Service Rangers and Interpreter And Natural Resource professionals. We must continue to support our National Parks!
My love for running began in my late 40s after my fellow lifeguard, Anne Haggerty, passed from squamous cell skin carcinoma. Annie had run the beaches for many many years with a great zeal for life . it was then , with inspiration, a very dedicated lifeguard staff and the Cape Cod National Seashore Alumni created the Outer Beach Run , Annie's Run, in memory of her. I am now , proud to join in with the Falmouth Road Race as it was always held the same weekend as Annie's run. I will have memories of my children playing in the surf, of Annie, her son Owen, and many former and current lifeguard friends cheers in my memories to motivate me!
