I am honored to be running the 2026 ASICS Falmouth Road Race in support of New England Donor Services, an organization that is personal to me. I am dedicating this run to my extraordinary friend Barry, who passed away unexpectedly while out for a run in May 2025.
Like me—and so many in our community—Barry was an avid runner, a great running partner, and an organ donor. In an incredibly difficult moment, I and several running friends within our track club, TVFR, were present when his wife Caroline, our friend and fellow runner, confirmed to New England Donor Services Barry’s wishes to be an organ donor.
In the times following Barry’s passing, Caroline has received a number of deeply moving letters from donor recipients—each one expressing profound gratitude. They write of being able to eat again, to walk without pain in their back or neck, and to recover with renewed strength after surgery. These heartfelt messages are a powerful testament to the lasting impact of Barry’s generosity.
Barry’s decision as an organ donor has given his wife, family, friends, and donor recipients a profound understanding to the significant impact of organ and tissue donation. I hope his life remembered will inspire others to support New England Donor Services too.
Description
New England Donor Services is the not-for-profit organization serving the region for organ and tissue donation. There are currently 6,500 patients waiting for an organ transplant in New England and countless others will require tissue to heal this year. With approximately half of the population registered donor, it's critical for more people to join the Donor Registry today. Funds are needed to help educate the community about the importance of organ and tissue donation and the need across the community. Give now and show your support!
