Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

I’m running the Falmouth Road Race to support the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC), an organization that means a great deal to my family. The MDSC is dedicated to supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families through a broad range of programs and initiatives. Their team provides resources, guidance, and advocacy aimed at ensuring every person with Down syndrome can thrive in their community.

My twin nephews, Sebastian and Zachary, are the reason I support the MDSC. Their Down syndrome diagnosis came shortly after they were born, and with it came our first introduction to the MDSC through a thoughtful care package delivered to the NICU.

We didn’t know what the future would look like, but we quickly learned that it would be filled with more joy and purpose. Sebastian and Zachary, along with their triplet Sophia, brought our family closer, made us stronger, and gave us new perspectives.

When Sebastian and Zachary were hospitalized with life-threatening respiratory infections at Boston Children’s Hospital, the MDSC was there once again to support our family.

Among many other forms of advocacy and assistance, the MDSC provides support for Massachusetts families of children with Down syndrome who are experiencing extended hospital stays or ongoing complex medical care through their MDSC Cares Program.

I’m currently training for the Boston Marathon while fundraising for the MDSC, and the experience has already been incredibly meaningful. The support from friends, family, and the running community has meant so much throughout this journey.

After Boston, I wanted to continue supporting the MDSC, and running the Falmouth Road Race is another opportunity for me to do that and help raise awareness for the work they do for families like ours.

While our confident and cheerful Sebastian has passed on, we are so thankful that organizations like the MDSC are there to support Zachary and others living with Down syndrome as they navigate school-age years, their transition to adulthood, and beyond.

I’m running in memory of Sebastian and for Zachary’s future. With your support, we can help advance the MDSC’s mission of ensuring individuals like them are valued, included, and given opportunities to pursue fulfilling lives.
