Why are you running for WHOI and ocean science?
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution continually searches the ocean to find ways to sustain, maintain, and protect its biodiversity for life by implementing innovative techniques that counter the effects of climate change on our oceans and on our planet. To support their mission, I am honored and pleased to run this summer’s Falmouth Road Race with Team WHOI.
What do you love about the ocean?
I love EVERYTHING about the ocean! Living on Cape Cod, I enjoy exploring low tide and swimming underwater to see the various shellfish and horseshoe crabs. In the Cape Cod Canal, what a treat it is to see the occasional seals, whales, and ocean sunfish!
Why (what) do you enjoy about running?
Running is my muse, along with my art. It brings me to a quiet and reflective place with myself and nature. The longer I run, even with those rolling hills, my mantra is “she believed she could, so she did!”
What else would you like to share about yourself?
As a retired STE(A)M middle school teacher, I used my Engineering Design Process projects to offer my students independent, “real-life” team activities. Observing their work and offering hands-on tools to create their final project to test was exciting for all!

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is a world-class community of researchers, engineers, technologists and students working together to find solutions to critical environmental challenges facing humanity and our ocean planet.
We are working together to support ocean science at WHOI. As we join together to RACE FOR THE OCEAN, you help WHOI place big bets on science to accelerate the search for climate solutions, keep ocean habitats healthy and marine life thriving, and explore new possibilities for human lives and livelihoods.
By supporting me, you are also supporting solutions-based science by giving WHOI scientists and engineers the flexibility they need to identify and pursue critical research priorities in a changing ocean. Together, we can create an ocean of possibilities!
