My Story…
This December marks nearly 15 years of living with Type 1 Diabetes—a journey that has taught me firsthand just how complex, demanding, and relentless this disease can be. Managing T1D is a constant, daily responsibility, from insulin injections and finger sticks (long before CGMs!) to navigating the highs and lows of blood sugar levels. These challenges aren’t occasional; they are part of everyday life for those who have faced—and continue to conquer Type 1 Diabetes.
Despite it all, I’ve never allowed this disease to stand in the way of anything I’ve wanted to achieve. Living with T1D has strengthened my resilience, discipline, and determination, shaping who I am today. Of course, I couldn’t be where I am today without my amazing family, friends, and doctors – it hasn’t always been easy!
The work Breakthrough does to advance research, improve life-changing technologies, and ultimately work toward a cure gives me tremendous hope for the future of the T1D community. I’m incredibly excited and proud to run the Falmouth Road Race on behalf of Breakthrough and to support their mission to change lives and one day make Type 1 Diabetes a thing of the past.
Description
Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!
I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to Breakthrough T1D as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
