My Story…

I’ve joined Breakthrough T1D to support the millions of people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D); a cause that became deeply personal following my sister’s recent diagnosis. Witnessing her resilience and positivity while navigating such a relentless, exhausting condition is truly inspiring. I am so grateful for the resources Breakthrough T1D has provided to families like mine who are suddenly thrust into a world of 'bleeders', 'rage boluses', and being 'high' referring to blood sugar.

As a process engineer in biotech, I am also proud to align my career with this cause. I currently work at Lonza Biologics on the team helping advance Vertex’s T1D allogeneic cell therapy, Zimislecel, into large-scale commercial production. Every day, I am driven to make a tangible impact towards a future where people with T1D are insulin independent.

Many of my colleagues on the Zimislecel  program are also living with or directly impacted by T1D, highlighting how compassionate and driven the community truly is.

That’s why I’m running the Falmouth Road Race this year; to continue making any impact I can in support of my sister and millions of people around the world impacted by T1D.

Description

Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!

I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.

Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to Breakthrough T1D as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
