Lacing Up for a Cure: Our Return to the Falmouth Road Race
This summer, my mom, Sherrie, and I are returning to the iconic shoreline of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, to tackle the Falmouth Road Race. This 7-mile course is more than just a beautiful run—it’s a mission. We are proud to be representing the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) charity team to raise funds for critical research and essential patient resources.
Our Journey: From Newbies to Veterans
This marks my fifth year running with NBTS and Sherrie’s fourth. Looking back at where we started is always a humbling experience. Our first race involved sleeping in cars, navigating via scooters, and a general sense of "having no idea what we were doing."
Since then, our NBTS journey has taken us to starting lines across the country and even onto the international stage. But no matter how far we travel, Falmouth is where our story began, and it remains the heart of our mission.
Why We Run: A Personal Fight
The motivation behind every mile is deeply personal. A few years ago, my life was upended when my high school roommate and lifelong friend was unexpectedly diagnosed with a brain tumor. What began as slight clumsiness and odd symptoms was revealed to be glioblastoma, a relentless and aggressive form of brain cancer.
Like so many others, I turned to the internet for answers and was met with terrifying statistics and a lack of hope. That changed when I found the National Brain Tumor Society. Joining their running team allowed me to channel that fear into tangible action.
We run with purpose for three incredible women:
Sara: My dear friend who continues to manage her condition with inspiring strength and a sense of humor.
Gayle: Sherrie’s college roommate, whose life was tragically cut short by this diagnosis.
Melissa: Our beloved NBTS teammate who was always the first to "kick our asses" on the Falmouth course.
How You Can Help
We run with hope, gratitude, and the belief that better treatments are within reach. But we can't do it alone.
Please consider supporting our run with a donation today. Every dollar contributed helps NBTS fund life-saving research and provide a lifeline to families navigating the complexities of a brain tumor diagnosis.
Thank you for standing (and running) with us!
