Miles for Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester
Hello, my name is Francesca McArdle. I grew up attending The Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester, where I spent most of my school breaks and summers throughout my childhood. When I became old enough to work, I knew I wanted it to be at BGCD.
I got a job as a camp counselor and my first summer working there was one of the most rewarding experiences. The staff, kids, and administration made BGCD such a positive and welcoming environment.
For the campers, it wasn’t just a camp. It was a place where kids from all different backgrounds and life experiences could come together and simply have a good day. The following summer, the club launched an inclusion program designed to support kids with disabilities by participating in the day-to-day camp. I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a camper, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Through this program, I saw how the kids at BGCD were able to connect and build meaningful relationships with peers of all abilities. That summer helped me realize my passion and future career path. I am running for The Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester because of the impact it has had on my life, from my childhood experiences to the opportunities it’s given me as a young adult. I want to do everything I can to ensure that every child has the same opportunity to feel supported and grow.
