My Story…

Many of you know my brother Eric, but some may not know that he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just 14 months old. I was only 2½ years old when Eric was diagnosed, so living with T1D is all I've ever known for him.

For nearly 20 years, I've watched Eric face the daily challenges that come with this disease – finger pricks, shots, CGM alarms, pump malfunctions, Joslin and hospital visits, carb counting, and low blood sugars. I've seen incredible advances in treatment, but despite all the progress, there is still no cure.

This year, I'm running the Falmouth Road Race for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) to help fund research and move us closer to a world without T1D. I'm running for Eric, and for every family living with this disease every day.

My fundraising goal is $2,000. If you're able to contribute, any amount would mean so much to me and my family. Thank you for supporting this cause that is incredibly close to my heart.

Description

Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!

I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.

Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to Breakthrough T1D as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
