My Story…
We recently lost our niece and cousin, Macy Burgess, to pediatric cancer. Last summer, one of Macy’s brightest weeks was spent with her closest friends and cousins at a home on Cape Cod generously provided by Tommy’s Place, a nonprofit organization that owns and operates magical vacation homes for children fighting cancer.
It was a special time that allowed Macy to simply be a kid outside of cancer.
Based in Massachusetts, Tommy’s Place has two homes on Cape Cod specifically designed for children and their families. The homes are equipped with game rooms, movie theaters, craft rooms, pools, and more. Kid-friendly murals fill the walls, and the many bedrooms for visiting friends and family are playfully themed after children’s movies and books.
Tommy’s Place’s mission is: “To make sure kids fighting cancer have a place to relax, make memories, and most importantly, have fun.”
I am running the Falmouth Road Race to honor Macy’s legacy and to support an organization that helps children and families find joy and comfort during the hardest times of their lives.
