Help Joel raise money

This August, I’ll be running the Falmouth Road Race as part of the May Institute Charity Team, with a goal of raising $1,500 to support the important work they do for individuals and families.

My reason for participating is a little different from the personal stories that may have brought many others to this team. I work as a caregiver for an 82-year-old man who was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and has since become paralyzed from the waist down and dependent on a wheelchair. Caring for him has given me a firsthand understanding of how dramatically a disability can change someone’s life and how important compassion, patience, dignity, and support can be.

Although his condition is not the same as the disabilities and challenges faced by many of the individuals supported by the May Institute, my experience as a caregiver has given me a personal connection to the broader importance of supporting people with disabilities and the families and caregivers who surround them.

I’m not a professional runner, but I’m challenging myself to complete the Falmouth Road Race and use the opportunity to raise money for a cause that helps improve the lives of others.

Any donation, big or small, would mean a great deal to me and help support the May Institute’s mission.
