My Story…
In January 2020, I was a single parent trying to provide for my child while starting my own company. What should have been an exciting new chapter quickly became one of the hardest times of my life. The bills never stopped, the stress felt constant, and I spent many nights wondering how I was going to make everything work. I was balancing work, parenting, and the fear of not being able to provide enough for my son.
That is when I turned to the food pantry.
Walking through those doors for the first time was emotional. I expected embarrassment and judgment, but instead I found kindness, compassion, and support. The volunteers welcomed my son and me with warmth and understanding. They did not make me feel less than. They made me feel seen. They made sure we had food on the table and reminded me that I was not alone during one of the most difficult periods of my life.
The pantry gave us more than groceries. It gave us stability and peace of mind. Around the holidays especially, it meant everything knowing my son would have meals on the table and that I could focus on creating memories with him instead of worrying about how I would afford food. It restored a sense of dignity during a time when I felt overwhelmed and exhausted.
What impacted me most was realizing how many different people needed help. Parents, seniors, hardworking families, and people who never imagined they would find themselves struggling. It reminded me that hardship can happen to anyone. Life can change quickly, and sometimes all someone needs is a little support to get through a difficult season.
The volunteers at the pantry were not just handing out food. They were giving people hope. They were creating a sense of community for people who felt isolated and stressed. That compassion stayed with me long after I no longer needed assistance.
As my business grew and life became more stable, I knew I wanted to give back. I came back to the pantry, but this time as someone helping others. I know what it feels like to need support, and I know how life changing it can be when someone simply says, “We are here for you.”
That experience is one of the biggest reasons I am running. I believe strong communities take care of one another. I believe leadership should come from people who understand real struggles and who have experienced both receiving help and giving it back. I want to continue building a community where families feel supported, where people are treated with dignity, and where no one feels ashamed for needing help during hard times.
Food pantries are about so much more than food. They provide compassion, dignity, and hope. They help parents breathe a little easier. They make sure children have meals on the table. They remind people that they matter.
Your donation does more than fill shelves. It helps families get through some of the hardest moments of their lives. It gives people hope when they need it most.
Community means everything to me because I have lived both sides of it. I have been the person asking for help, and now I am proud to be someone who can give back. That journey shaped who I am, and it is why I will continue doing everything I can to support the people around me.
If you are able to donate, please do. Your generosity may be the reason a family can sit down together for dinner tonight without fear or worry.
