This year, I’m honored to be running the Falmouth Road Race once again in support of the Michael Lisnow Respite Center — an organization that holds such a special place in my heart.

When Carter was born and we began navigating the reality of his diagnosis and the many unknowns that came with it, the Respite Center became so much more than just a program for us. It became a safe place during some of the hardest and most overwhelming moments of my life as a mother.

They gave us support when I felt lost, compassion when I felt exhausted, and a community when I felt alone. They welcomed Carter with love exactly as he was and reminded me that there were people who truly understood the journey we were on. In those early years especially, having a place where both Carter and I were accepted, supported, and cared for meant more than words could ever explain.

Running this race is about so much more than the miles for me. It’s about giving back to a place that helped carry Carter and I through difficult seasons and continues to provide incredible support to so many families raising children with disabilities and complex needs.

Every step I take this year is for Carter, for our journey, and for the community that helped us feel less alone.
