My Story…
I was a Girl Scout in the same troop from second grade through senior year of high school. When I think about my childhood so many of my core memories are with my Girl Scout troop. To this day my Girl Scout troop is still my most solid group of friends, we have gone through so much life together - graduation, college, relocating, marriage, and kids! And our troop leader was and is still one of the most influential people in my life - she gave me a safe place to grow, explore, and make mistakes. My kids now have this same group of strong women in their lives as their aunties to show them just how to be awesome people. I am forever grateful for troop 1061, I would not be the person I am today without them :)
Description
Building strength and confidence in girls is the cornerstone of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ (GSEMA) mission. Girl Scouts allows girls the opportunity to take risks in a safe and supportive environment, challenging them to try new things and build their confidence. Armed with this assurance, girls go on to do great things: leading peers and others, innovating and forging new paths, and thinking outside the box to benefit their families, communities, and beyond. GSEMA membership is 30,000 strong, with girls and adults in 178 communities in eastern Massachusetts.
Girls gain valuable skills in the four pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience: Life Skills, STEM, Entrepreneurship, and the Outdoors. The Girl Scout programming is a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun age-appropriate activities including earning badges, selling cookies, exploring science and the outdoors, and implementing community service projects. For over 110 years, Girl Scouts has delivered diverse leadership programming to develop the next generation of strong female leaders with self-confidence and positive values who seek out challenges, maintain healthy relationships, and are committed to improving their communities and beyond. There are currently over 50 million Girl Scout alums; 60% of female members of the 117th Congress are alums, virtually every female astronaut who has ever flown in space is a Girl Scout alum, and every female secretary of state in U.S. history is a former Girl Scout- Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice, and Hillary Clinton.
