I am so lucky and grateful to have been selected to run the Falmouth Road Race alongside a group of people who share a common experience and a vital mission. I am raising funds to advance critical Alzheimer’s research because I have witnessed the devastating effects of this disease firsthand.
My aunt Rosemary’s battle has been my first time directly interacting directly with someone who has this awful disease. Even though she is still physically with us, it often feels as though we have already lost her.
When I think of her, I will always remember our floor picnics right in front of her dining room sliding door, where we’d always have fried chicken and sip Orangina as a special treat, before dancing Rockette-style to "New York, New York". Every greeting card sent in either direction always had "10 hugs and 10 kisses" in it.
I am running to honor her and John Joy's battle and in memory of David Baker, Cynthia Jarvis in the hopes that future families won't have to experience the heartbreak of losing a loved one twice.
