Hi! My name is Akash, and I have multiple anaphylactic food allergies. This summer I am running the Falmouth Road Race for KeepSmilin4Abbie to spread allergy awareness throughout the population. My goal is to get rid of all of my allergies or just have 1 or 2 left if I can. I also want to help the KeepSmilin4Abbie foundation to get more donations so they can keep making their anaphylaxis detection watch so if someone is having an allergy reaction, it can detect it before the symptoms occur and the person can get the proper treatment needed (epinephrine commonly) without feeling the pain of anaphylaxis. As a mom of 3 boys with multiple anaphylactic allergies, supporting KeepSmilin4Abbie is critically important to my family.  As soon as our children learned to talk, they learned to tell others "please ask my mama or papa if this food is safe for me please."  When they learned to read, some of their first words included learned to read "dairy", "tree nuts", "wheat", "egg", "chickpea", amongst others.  We teach them how to bake with allergy-friendly substitutes, how to analyze potential risk while eating out, how to self-administer their epi-pens, and how to advocate for themselves.  

My son Akash has had several setbacks with respect to his food allergies over the past year.  This year as I run up and down those Falmouth hills with him (or more likely, behind him!), I will think about how he bounced back each time, stronger than I expected and often, stronger than I could be in certain circumstances.  I am glad to be doing this with him, and to continue to support KeepSmilin4Abbie at Falmouth again.  Please consider donating to this important cause!
