I'm running the Falmouth Road Race to END ALZ!

Hi, I'm Sophie Alexakos, I am from Bedford, New Hampshire! A little about me is that I am currently studying to become an elementary school teacher. I am passionate about living a life that puts giving back at the forefront of everything I do. Two years ago I started running as a personal challenge, never expecting it to become such an important part of who I am. What began as a way to push myself physically quickly became a source of strength during both mentally and emotionally difficult times. Since then, I have completed 10 races, including my first marathon, and every finish line has taught me something about resilience, gratitude, and perseverance.

My lifelong goal is to run the Boston Marathon for a charity. In 2025, I had the privilege of running the B.A.A. Half Marathon for Dana-Farber, and the experience showed me how meaningful running can be for something bigger than yourself. The Alzheimer’s Association holds a special place in my heart. July 26, 2019, I lost my “Papa,” after his battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Watching this disease slowly take pieces of the person we loved was heartbreaking. Throughout that journey, my mother and grandmother found comfort, guidance, and support through the Alzheimer's Association. For that, we will always be grateful.

That is why I am fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association. Every dollar raised helps support critical research, advocacy efforts, educational programs, and resources for families facing the challenges of Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. I am running for the hope that one day no family will have to experience what mine and many others have.

Whenever a race gets tough, I can still hear Papa's voice telling me to "give 'em hell." I carry his determination, strength, and love with me through every mile. This race is more than a personal goal, it's an opportunity to honor his memory and contribute to a future without Alzheimer's disease. I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Whether through a donation, sharing this page, or simply cheering me on, you are helping advance the fight against Alzheimer's and supporting families who need it most.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping me honor Papa's legacy! Together, we can work toward a world without Alzheimer's.

Be well,

Sophie Alexakos
