This year I’m grateful to be running my second road race since undergoing brain surgery.
A routine MRI unexpectedly revealed I had a brain tumor. Days before my 25th birthday, I underwent surgery at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. One of the most difficult parts of the experience was the uncertainty - I didn’t know what the tumor was and what it meant for my future until the pathology results came back after surgery. Thankfully, it was benign.
Through the process I was lucky enough to be under the care of Dr. Nirav J. Patel. A moment that will always stick with me was meeting with him to discuss the pathology results. He was just as excited as I was when sharing the good news. His dedication to his patients and passion for helping others is undeniable.
Today, every mile serves as a reminder of how fortunate I am to have received the care I did and to have the opportunity to live a healthy, active life. Having benefited greatly from the work of those who came before me, running Falmouth is a small way for me to give back and support future patients as well as those currently facing similar challenges.
Each donation goes directly to the Nirav J. Patel, MD Research Fund and helps support continued advancements in neurosurgical research and patient care.
