On August 16th, I'm running the Falmouth Road Race in support of Citizens for Juvenile Justice (CfJJ), Massachusetts's only independent statewide organization working exclusively to reform how we treat young people in our justice system. I'm asking you to sponsor my race with a donation — any amount helps.

Here's why this cause matters to me personally.

As a criminal defense lawyer, I spend a lot of time thinking about who the system catches, who it harms, and whether it ever actually delivers on its promise of justice. CfJJ has spent decades asking those same questions — and doing something about the answers. They fight the school-to-prison pipeline, push back against racial disparities in juvenile courts, advocate for sealing and expungement so that a youthful mistake doesn't follow someone forever, and work to keep young people in age-appropriate settings rather than adult jails and prisons.

I believe in their mission enough that I'm not just running for them — I'm litigating for them. Right now, I represent CfJJ in an active lawsuit against four Massachusetts county sheriffs over the scope of their cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. The case goes to the heart of what CfJJ stands for: that every young person in this Commonwealth — regardless of immigration status, race, or background — deserves to be treated fairly, equitably, and with basic dignity.
