My Story…

This August, I am taking on the 2026 Falmouth Road Race in loving memory of my mama, Denise Fleming, who passed away unexpectedly in January.

My mom dedicated her entire life to education and counseling, making a profound impact on every community she served. She had a rare, natural gift for connecting with children, guiding them with compassion. Above all else, her love and devotion as a single mother were the center of her world.

My mom was my whole world, and as I continue the impossible task of navigating a world without her, I have endless gratitude for communities such as Empower. Volunteering at their Mother’s Day event this past spring showed me the power of their mission firsthand. Here, I met extraordinary youth such as 14-year old Zoe, whose resilience has inspired me to let go of fear, and make the most out of new experiences. I look forward to hopefully serving as a mentor in the upcoming year.

How You Can Help

My mom loved staying active, bringing people together, and helping children thrive. I can't think of a better way to carry forward her legacy than running the Falmouth Road Race to ensure no child has to navigate the pain of losing a parent alone.

Please consider donating to my fundraising page to support Empower’s vital programs. Any amount, big or small, directly helps provide grieving young people with the mentorship, community, and support they need to heal.

Thank you so much for your love, support, and generosity as I take on these 7 miles in memory of my mama.

Description

Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2026 Falmouth Road Race!

Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”

Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.  For more information, or to become a Mentor or enroll a child, please visit www.weareempower.org
