Help Kelly raise money

I am running this year's race with a purpose. 

Home Base is a nationwide organization that works to care for the invisible wounds of Veterans, Service Members, and their Families. 

Why I care...

42 members of my family have served in the US Military. From surviving Belleau Wood to carving the pole that raised the American Flag at Iwo Jima, my family has answered the call. 

The picture on this page shows my brother, a Colonel, and my father, a Chief Warrant Officer 4, both proud Marines.  

As a child, I remember visiting the base near my home and marveling at how tall everyone stood. My Dad would go away for weeks for cold-weather training, or we would spend summers in North Carolina while he worked as an aircraft controller. I also remember worrying that my Dad wouldn't return when he was called to Desert Storm. This was all a part of being in the military, and it was a choice. 

My brother has followed in his footsteps and is currently a USMC Colonel. His family has moved countless times, and I have held my breath for months on several deployments, praying that wherever he was, he was ok. I know it is even harder on his girls and his wife. Although I worry, he is damn good at his job, and we are safer because of his service. 

As someone who has been surrounded by the military my whole life, I know the sacrifice each military family makes when a member enlists. It is a family effort to serve. This is what drew me to raise money for Home Base: I love that it supports not only enlisted members and Veterans but also their families.
