Boston SCORES was created to close the opportunity gap for students across Boston by combining soccer with meaningful out-of-school enrichment.

In the United States, soccer is often dominated by a “pay-to-play” model. Requiring families to cover expensive equipment, travel, and club fees. For many kids, this creates significant barriers, leading to gaps in access, health, and the chance to compete at a high level.

Boston SCORES is changing that. Through free soccer programs and classroom-based enrichment alongside teammates, they give students an equal opportunity to grow, not just as athletes, but as leaders, students, and community members.

This mission hits especially close to home for me.

Growing up, I was a bit of a knucklehead, but soccer gave me structure, discipline, and purpose. Playing in South Florida, I saw firsthand how the financial barriers of the game could limit opportunities for so many talented kids. I was fortunate enough to have experiences that took me across the country, and even overseas to England, but I know that access isn’t the reality for everyone.

Soccer wasn’t just a sport for me, it shaped who I am today. It taught me leadership, accountability, resilience, and the importance of being part of something bigger than myself. It gave me a community and a path forward.

That’s why Boston SCORES means so much to me. They’re giving every child, regardless of background, the same kind of opportunity that helped shape my life.
