My Story…

Becoming a mentor with Empower has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in years.

When I was 17, I lost my mother to cancer. During one of the hardest times in my life, a family friend quietly stepped in and became an unofficial mentor. His guidance, encouragement, and belief in me had a lasting impact, and I truly don’t know where I’d be today without him.

Now, it’s an incredible privilege to be in a position where I can pay that forward. Having the opportunity to mentor and support someone else is both humbling and deeply rewarding. I hope to make even a small difference in someone else’s life, just as someone once did for me

Description

Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2026 Falmouth Road Race!

Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”

Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.  For more information, or to become a Mentor or enroll a child, please visit www.weareempower.org
