My Story
This August I'm running the Falmouth Road Race in memory of my best friend, Vanessa. The last time I ran it was 10 years ago, just a couple of weeks after she died. My last text to Vanessa was actually asking her for tips on the race, since she had run it a couple of years earlier in support of her uncle, and asking her to donate. I can't believe it's been 10 years since I ran it. And I can't believe it's been 10 years since Vanessa died.
I remember that race pretty vividly. I wasn't going to run because I was so sad. But what got me through it was thinking about how at least I still could run, when Vanessa didn't have that opportunity anymore. That was my motivation then, and it always will be.
I miss Vanessa every day, but I know she would be so incredibly proud of the work we've done in her honor over the last decade through the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation. Running this year's race for the foundation on the 10th anniversary feels especially significant to me.
I would so appreciate any support in helping me reach my goal. All money raised goes towards the foundation and our mission to use Vanessa's story to spread awareness and prevent future senseless acts of violence from happening to others.
