My Story…
This summer, I’m running the Falmouth Road Race to fundraise for Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)).
I’m running in memory of my amazing Uncle David and Auntie Kim, both of whom passed away far too young as a result of complications of Type 1 Diabetes.
The diabetes care available to David and Kim in the 90s and early 2000s looked drastically different than what diabetes care looks like in 2026. In my lifetime alone, it has been incredible to see life-changing medical advances in T1D treatment like continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps.
Those transformative innovations are in large part thanks to Breakthrough T1D’s dedicated efforts. Their work not only funds important research but also includes advocacy to ensure care is accessible and covered by insurance. Despite major progress, living with T1D is still extremely challenging—and with federal cuts to research funding, Breakthrough T1D’s work is more important than ever.
Our family misses David and Kim every day, and I’m fundraising in hopes of a cure for other families impacted by T1D.
Description
Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!
I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Please support me and donate to my fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to Breakthrough T1D as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
